04 May 07 - 08:05ST. GEORGE RIBBON

The musicians of the Admiralty Navy Band joined a St. George Ribbon campaign launched in Russia on the eve of May 9 - Victory Day.
These days, one can see St. George ribbons everywhere – on baby carriages, buses and cars, ladies bags and men’s jackets.

“I remember! I am proud!”, “The victory of my grandfather is my victory!” – under these slogans the first St. George Ribbon campaign started off in Moscow two years ago to become a nationwide. Although lasting for only a short time from April 24 to May 12, it will remind people about the Great Victory and those who sacrificed their lives for it.
“If World War II caused suffering to your family, if you know the price of Victory and remember it do make St. George Ribbon the emblem of that memory”. This is the motto of the people’s action currently held in Russia to mark Victory of Soviet people together with allied countries - the USA and UK - over nazism.

The black-and-orange ribbon repeats the colours of St. George Cross, the main soldier’s award established in the 18th century and awarded only for heroic deeds on battle fields. This is the symbol of valour, courage and will. (more)
